ReCan85 a New Zealand world-first
At Recorp, our mission has always been clear: to eliminate single-use plastic bottles from New Zealand by offering smarter, more sustainable alternatives.
The ReCan85 is a major step in that direction. Made with 85% recycled aluminium, the ReCan85 contains more recycled content than any other can in the world, and every bit of that aluminium will be sourced from cans collected right here in New Zealand.
For decades, the global standard for recycled content in beverage cans has remained around 60-65%. We set out to do better, from not just the can but also the process. The ReCan85 represents a true closed-loop approach: aluminium that starts its life as a drink can in New Zealand is collected, recycled offshore, and returned to our Auckland facility to be formed into new cans. From drink to bin to drink again - it’s circularity in action.
Aluminium is one of the few materials that can be recycled endlessly without losing quality, and using recycled aluminium takes 95% less energy than producing new. With the ReCan85, we’re reducing emissions, cutting waste, and building a circular model that consumers and brands alike can stand behind.
This innovation is the result of a relentless focus on sustainability, smart manufacturing, and a refusal to settle for the status quo. And while the Recorp ReCan85 is a world first, we don’t see 85% as the finish line - it’s a milestone on the path.
