As pressure mounts on companies to reduce their environmental footprint, packaging has come under scrutiny - particularly in the beverage industry. But the question isn’t just what container is recyclable - it’s how much of it is already recycled.

A recent study comparing glass, plastic, and aluminium containers found aluminium cans to have the lowest overall environmental impact. They’re lightweight, infinitely recyclable, and use significantly less energy than alternatives like glass bottles, which are heavy and energy-intensive, or plastic bottles, which can’t be endlessly recycled and contribute to microplastic pollution.

But not all aluminium cans are created equal.

While most cans globally contain around 40–70% recycled content, Recorp has developed a can made with 85% recycled aluminium - setting a new benchmark both in New Zealand and globally. Using recycled aluminium reduces energy use by up to 95% compared to virgin material, making every percentage point count.
