The most recycled beverage container
As pressure mounts on companies to reduce their environmental footprint, packaging has come under scrutiny - particularly in the beverage industry. But the question isn’t just what container is recyclable - it’s how much of it is actually being recycled.

A global study comparing glass, plastic, and aluminium containers found aluminium cans to have the lowest overall environmental impact. They are also the most recycled beverage container globally, with a recycling rate of around 71%, compared with 34% for PET plastic bottles and 40% for glass bottles. Aluminium cans are lightweight, infinitely recyclable, and require far less energy to reprocess - unlike glass, which is heavy and energy-intensive, or PET, which can only be downcycled a limited number of times and contributes to microplastic pollution.

But not all aluminium cans are created equal.

While most cans globally contain around 60 - 65% recycled content, Recorp has developed a can made with 85% recycled aluminium (ReCan85) - setting a new benchmark globally. Using recycled aluminium reduces energy use by up to 95% compared to virgin material, making every percentage point count.

So brands using the ReCan85 aren’t just making a packaging choice - they’re making a tangible step toward a more circular, low-carbon future.
